Construction Defects
Structural
Structural defects can manifest themselves in various forms, including, cracks in stucco, floors and flatwork.
Improper structural design can be seen as sagging in floors and ultimately cracking on the wall surfaces, squeaky floors, and uneven floor surfaces. Property owners should look for second story floor problems near the stair landing areas. Improper concrete slab work can also show as cracks within the concrete itself or throughout any tile work.
Defects in concrete slabs can arise from improper mixture or application of the cement or concrete material. Significant cracks and separation can be a sign of more serious problems. If a home is constructed on a hillside, these cracks may be an indicator of soil movement, either expansive or settlement.
